Ferry from Brownsville to Costa Rica?

Post by Don Benoi » Sun, 30 Nov 1997 04:00:00

I have heard that there is a ferry that leaves from nearby Brownsville,
Texas and goes to some Central American countries. Can anyone tell me if
one goes to Costa Rica and where I can get more info on schedules.

Don,

I've never heard of that ferry... but if ANYONE knows, it's the folks at
the South American Explorers Club... yes, even for Central America.

Check their website at http://www.samexplo.org

and if you are a member, you can get all kinds of free trip reports (the
website has some good stuff even if you are not.)

Cheers, Jos

I believe the ferry you are thinking of is the Isabel-Cortes ferry, that goes
from Port Isabel, Texas (right next to Brownsville) to Puerto Cortes, Honduras.
These are the only stops that this ferry makes.  I wouldn't get to e***d
about it yet, because they just started operating and are having TERRIBLE
problems; i.e., the engines keep breaking down, leaving passengers stranded for
days.  They are constantly running late, and the prices are not all that
attractive, either.  Check the archive for this newsgroup and you will find
further info about the ferry, including telephone numbers, etc.
