MURDER OF JOCK HENDERSON IN PARIS

Post by Mike O'Sulliva » Tue, 26 Oct 1999 04:00:00

This is the second anniversary of the brutal *** of British tourist Jock
Henderson by a group of skateboarding thugs in the Champs Elysee. No
culprits have been traced, owing in part to the inadequacies of the Paris
police.  They never bothered to make a serious effort to trace witnesses.
Amongst these were an American couple who tried to assist the ***ed man.
They have never been traced, and might even not know of the seriousness of
the attack. On the off-chance that they might read this newsgroup I thought
it might be worth this posting.

Are you really sure this happened?  In Europe?  I, and many other NG
followers have been led to believe there is no *** in Europe.
According to our European posters, all the *** and crime takes
place in the U.S.!  This is a shock!

Tragically only too true. For yesterday's report in the Daily Telegraph go
to the Electronic Telegraph online at www.telegraph.co.uk and search under
"Jock Henderson". Moreover, this is only one of 23 ***s of UK citizens in
the last 20 years, only 4 of which have been solved. Possibly the most
tragic of these was the case of the Cornish schoolgirl who was***d and
***ed in a dormitory on a school trip to France while her friends slept
around her. No arrests here either.

You know, that really is not the impression I get from the NG taken
overall. It just seems to me that there is quite often some
understandable reaction (either way round) to generalisations drawn from
(often extremely) limited or second hand experience. No one likes to
have their country stereotyped by someone who may have limited exposure
to it and will often react by counter-accusation. Its human nature.

I don't think he is suggesting Europe is a risky place to travel - I
understood he was trying to help find the American couple who were
witnesses to the VERY unusual and tragic attack ...

Someone recently posted some stats regarding "*** death" numbers
and if I remember correctly, the number per hundred thousand were
actually higher in some EU countries than they were in the U.S.

I'll try and dig up the post.

You can find International Crime Statistics at

http://www.travelOK.net/~uncjin/profiles/

They are somewhat dated but here are some I extracted

England and Wales pop 60 m figures per 1994
Total ***s 729
***s per 100,000 1.215

France pop 60m figures per 1986
Total ***s 2680
***s per 100,00 4.47

Germany pop 87m
Total ***s 2708
***s per 100,000 3.4

Italy pop 56m 1986
Total ***s 2138
***s per 100,000 3.81

USA 1986 pop 239 m
Total ***s 20610
***s per 100,00  8.6

Of course the very low figures for the UK have
nothing to do with our stringent Gun Control
Laws :)
