Royal Caribbean -- TA booked Senior Rate but not I am not a Senior?

Post by Gabe in Tex » Tue, 08 Oct 2002 01:58:18

Hello.
My wife and I are in our 30's.
When I booked, the TA I used told me he managed to knock another 100
dollars off my cruise price. I just got my cruise docs for my Royal
Caribbean cruise and it says quite clearly "Senior Rate".  I have a
feeling this is how the TA knocked 100 bucks off.
What is going to happen to me when I get to the pier? I did not ask
for a senior rate and the price I paid (final payment has been made)
is already well above the current rate for my cruise. So I don't feel
like I am hurting RCCL at all as I have paid more than the surrent
rate. Should I expect any problems at the pier when embarking?
Thanks.

As long as you have already paid in full... don't worry.  They won't ask you
for any more...

Since you paid in full, there shouldn't be a problem unless the person checking
you in matches the date of birth. I would have a concern if your TA lied to
save you $100.
If that's the case. what else does he lie about?
I thought RCCL stopped giving senior discounts but maybe not.

Since the cruise line had their ages, they always ask for birthdates
when you book, it is possible that the RCI res office entered the wrong
code for a special and that the TA had nothing to do with the error
that was on their documents. I would simply tell the TA that there is
an error on the documents and see what their reaction is to this
information.

Hi Gabe,

The cruise line will have the right to charge you the proper rate.
You should have your travel agent take care of this before you show up
at the cruise terminal.  Of course it is possible that no one will
notice.  Do you want to take that chance?  I would not.

Hi Charles,

Royal Caribbean takes bookings without birth dates.

It's quite possible that the wrong code was entered, that they use the
senior rate for any $100 discount, or that your agent screwed up.  I would
check with the agent and have them clear it up  It may be no concern at all,
but you don't want any hassled at the pier.

Ya know, I've read all the responces to your question and every single one
of them missed the fact that the rate has dropped.  My cruise is also past
the final payment date, and since then I've gotten 5 price reductions, the
latest one this past Friday afternoon. Go to the RCL web site, check the
price, figure the difference and get your TA to call RCL. They will honor
the PR.. Don't let your TA tell you otherwise. If you check the cruise
Critic message boards inder the 11/11 Brillinace thread and also under the
thread Price Drop for Brilliance you will see that there are tons of people
getting these price reductions. Some stated out as E3 guarantees and have
been upgraded to category C'S for less than the original price they paid for
the E catagories.

That would be because the question wasn't about the rate dropping, but about
what happens when a 30 year old shows up with a ticket for the senior rate.
The current rate of the cruise has no bearing at all on the question, though
certainly he should be discussing that with the travel agent too.

I know it wasn't the question. Doesn't mean someone couldn't point it out to
him. I never said nobody answered his question.. I just said that the price
mention was overlooked or missed. I just thought it would be nice to let him
know. It didn't seem to me that this was something that his TA was going to
point out for him.

Do you usually book as a senior although you aren't?

Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply to my question.
I will be calling my TA this week to get it all sorted out.
I appreciate everyone's help.

Any of a number of things, only one good.  They don't catch it.

The other possibilities include an immediate add on payment to your on
board account all the way to a dismissal of the booking for incorrect
info.
